A report that is read, not just filed
An annual report has several audiences at once: trustees or shareholders, funders, staff and the public. It needs to be accurate, easy to navigate and consistent with your brand, and it usually has a fixed publication date tied to a meeting or filing deadline. Because content tends to be finalised late, agree the specification and a realistic production slot early, then build the layout around it. Tell us the page count, quantity, publication date and whether copies will be posted, so we can plan the print and finishing around your timetable.

Full annual reports
A4 portrait is the most common choice because financial statements, charts and tables need room to stay legible. Design the smallest text and the most detailed table first, then choose the format and stock to suit them.
Impact and summary reports
A shorter impact report or annual review, often A5 or A4, can tell the story to supporters and partners while the full accounts are published separately. The two can share a design and be printed together.
Covers and sections
A heavier cover, divider pages or a different stock for the accounts section can help readers find their way. Plan these into the page count from the start rather than adding them at proof stage.
Paper & finishes
Uncoated stock gives a considered, readable feel for text-heavy reports and accounts. Silk coated paper suits reports with strong photography. FSC-certified paper is available and the FSC logo can be printed on the report, a useful signal for a document that often discusses an organisation's environmental performance.
Our ISO 14001 environmental management certification and FSC chain of custody provide documented assurance about your print supply chain, which is helpful when the report itself covers sustainability or ESG commitments. On the cover, lamination, spot UV, foil or embossing can give a title or logo emphasis; use them where they support the design rather than by default.
Binding a report
Slimmer reports and reviews are usually saddle stitched, which we do in-house on our Muller Prima stitching line. The page count is planned in multiples of four, so it is worth checking the total before the layout is signed off.
Longer reports with full accounts often suit PUR perfect binding, giving a squared spine that can carry the organisation's name and year. Spine width depends on the final page count and paper, so we will confirm it before cover artwork is finished. If the report needs to lie flat or be drilled for a binder, ask us about the options for your specification.
Litho or digital printing?
Most annual reports are printed by B2 litho on our Heidelberg Speedmaster presses, which can reproduce a Pantone brand colour exactly and keep colour consistent through the run. Our proofing is calibrated to ISO 12647-2, so the proof you approve is a reliable guide to the printed report.
Short runs, late-changing sections or a small number of copies for a board meeting can be printed digitally on our FOGRA-certified Heidelberg Versafire presses. A common approach is to print the main run on litho and produce any small top-up quantities digitally.
Mailing & trade print
If the report is sent to members, donors or shareholders, we can process the address data, add a personalised covering letter and enclose each copy on our Buhrs lines with camera matching. Qualifying UK mailings can be sorted for Royal Mail Mailmark at our site.
Copies needed for an AGM or event can be delivered separately from the posted run. Agencies and design studios can also commission annual reports as unbranded trade print under NDA, keeping the client relationship theirs.
