Print & Direct Mail for Cambridge Colleges and Research Organisations
A Cambridge college development office may send an alumni magazine in spring, a telephone campaign letter in autumn and an invitation to a reunion dinner in between. Each one goes to a carefully kept list of people who expect it to look and read well. Fretwell prints and mails this kind of work at our factory in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
We have no Cambridge office. What we offer is data preparation, litho and digital print, finishing and enclosing at one site, so a mailing to alumni, supporters or research partners is planned as a single job rather than split between a printer and a mailing house.

Alumni and development mailings
Development teams often segment a list by matriculation year, giving history or relationship with the college, then change the letter, the ask or the reply form for each group. Our Heidelberg Versafire and Konica Minolta AccurioPress digital presses print that variable content from your data, and our Buhrs enclosing lines match each personalised letter to its envelope and reply device.
Alumni data is personal data, and it is often held across several systems. We hold ISO 27001 certification for information security, alongside ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and our data-processing team can deduplicate and format files before print. Eligible UK mail is sorted for Royal Mail Mailmark, and overseas addresses can be discussed as part of the brief.
From research institutes to tech firms
Cambridge is not only a university city. Research organisations, life sciences companies and technology firms need conference materials, investor and partner brochures, and printed reports that explain complex work clearly. Those pieces are usually shorter runs with a long shelf life, which often suits digital print with careful finishing.
Where a run is longer or the colour needs to be consistent across a series, our Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75 B2 litho press is another option. Saddle stitching, PUR perfect binding and lamination are in-house, so a research summary, an event programme and a mailed appeal can share stocks and colour standards.
